How to Print Cheques in the UAE: A Step-by-Step Guide for Any Bank
To print a cheque in the UAE, load the cheque leaf your bank issued into a standard laser printer and print the date, payee, amount in figures, amount in words and the A/C Payee crossing into the right positions. Your bank has already printed the account number, cheque number and MICR line, so you are filling in a form, not making a cheque. The reliable way to get every field into the right box, every time, is cheque printing software for UAE businesses, where you set up your bank's cheque layout once and reuse it for every cheque after.
Want to see it on your own cheque book? Book a live session and we'll set up your actual bank layout on the call.
In six steps
- Add your bank account.
- Set up the cheque template once, from your own cheque book.
- Select the payee, then enter the date and amount.
- Run a test print.
- Print on the real leaf, then sign and stamp by hand.
- Keep the record.
What You Need Before You Start
Your bankโs cheque book
The leaves your bank issued, with the MICR line, account number and cheque number already printed.
A standard office laser printer
It needs a tray or manual feed slot with adjustable guides that hold a cheque leaf tight at cheque size. Most office printers have one.
Cheque printing software
Software that remembers your bankโs cheque layout, writes the amount in words for you, and keeps a list of every cheque you print. Browser-based software needs nothing installed.
The cheque details
Payee, date and amount.
You do not need a dedicated cheque printer, MICR toner or special paper. We explain why in do you need a cheque printing machine in the UAE.
How to Print a Cheque in 6 Steps
Step 1: Add your bank account
Enter the account number, account name and currency (AED, SAR, QAR, OMR, BHD or KWD). A business with accounts at several banks adds each one, so every cheque is printed against the right account.
Step 2: Set up your cheque template once
Scan or photograph a blank leaf from your own cheque book, then drag each field into position: payee, date, amount in figures, amount in words and the A/C Payee crossing. Or enter exact measurements in centimetres instead. It takes about 3 to 5 minutes per bank account, and the template is saved and reused for every cheque on that account.
Because the template comes from your own cheque book rather than a list built into the software, it works with any UAE bank, and you can adjust it yourself when a bank changes its layout. RAKBANK's new cheque format is the recent example. If you hold both old and new cheque books, set up one template for each. Unlimited templates are included on every plan.
Step 3: Enter the cheque details
Select the payee from your beneficiary list (or add a new one), then enter the date and the amount in figures. The amount in words is generated automatically, so there is no handwriting it and no mismatch between figures and words. Then choose the markings the payment needs: A/C Payee crossing, Non Negotiable, and a protective prefix and suffix around the amount.
Step 4: Run a test print
Before using a real leaf, print once on plain paper, then hold it against a blank cheque leaf up to the light and check that every field lands inside its box. If one is a millimetre out, adjust the template and test again. Nothing is wasted.
Step 5: Print on the real cheque leaf and sign
Load the leaf with the tray guides closed tight and print. Your authorised signatory then signs and stamps the cheque by hand, exactly as with a handwritten cheque. The software does not print signatures or stamps.
Step 6: Keep the record
Every cheque is logged with a status: pending, printed, uncleared, cleared or cancelled. Reports filter by date, bank, user and status and export to Excel. See how to track cleared and uncleared cheques for the full workflow.
How to Print Cheques in Bulk or as a Post-Dated Series
One cheque at a time is only one way to work. On Business Plus and Premium you can print whole runs:
- Excel import or paste. Upload a spreadsheet, or paste up to 100 rows of payee, date and amount. The batch is validated and previewed, then printed in one run.
- Payment vouchers. Upload a voucher or a multi-page PDF and the payee, amount and date are extracted into cheques. See how to print cheques from payment vouchers.
- Recurring series. For rent or instalments, enter the amount, start date and frequency (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly) and up to 120 cheques are dated and numbered automatically, with a preview of every date before you print. See how to automate post-dated cheque printing.
Review every row before you print. Imported data is not automatically correct.
Ways to Print Cheques Compared
| Method | Setup | If the bank changes its cheque format | Record of cheques | Bulk and PDC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Handwriting | None | Not affected | Cheque stub or a spreadsheet | One at a time |
| Word or Excel template | Positioned by hand for one layout | Wrong until you rebuild it | None | One at a time |
| Desktop software with built-in templates | Pick your bank from a list | Wait for the vendor to update it | Varies | Varies by vendor |
| Browser-based software, template from your own cheque book | 3 to 5 minutes per account | Adjust it yourself in minutes | Every cheque logged with status | Yes (Business Plus and Premium) |
Free options usually sit in the middle two rows. Free cheque printing software in the UAE explains what they leave out.
Bank-Specific Guides
The steps are the same for every bank. What changes is where the fields sit on each bank's cheque leaf. Bank walkthroughs:
Mistakes That Spoil Cheque Leaves
- Skipping the test print and spoiling a real leaf.
- Handwriting an amount in words that does not match the figures.
- Loose tray guides, so the leaf skews as it feeds.
- Using an old template after the bank issues a new cheque book.
